About Damian Drum

Damian Drum and Peter Ryan

Damian Drum is the Victorian National Party Upper House member for Northern Victoria Region.

The region covers 48 per cent of the state, and extends from Mildura in the north, through to Yarrowonga in the east, and as far south as Healesville.

Damian was voted in as the Member for North Western Province at the state election of 2002 and this seat formed part of the new, larger region in the 2006 election.

Damian’s life in politics followed a colourful career in which he came to national prominence as an AFL footy coach.

Damian is the deputy leader of the Victorian Nationals in the Upper House.

He is also the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Rural and Regional Development.

He is chairman of Parliament’s Rural and Regional Committee.

Damian was educated in Shepparton and at Assumption College in Kilmore.

He is a qualified builder and ran his own shed building business (Damian Drum’s Garages `N’ Sheds) for several years from 1987 to 1993.

He has also worked as a workplace consultant.

But Damian is probably best known for his involvement in football.

Damian played 65 games for Geelong from 1981 to 1990. He was assistant coach of the Sydney Football Club from 1994 to 1998.

He was senior coach of the Fremantle Dockers from 1999 to 2001, and senior coach of the Bendigo Diggers in 2002, before entering politics.

Damian is chairman of the Bendigo Football League.
